WE LOSE STAN SANCHEZ
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of STAN SANCHEZ. Stan passed away in late April due to natural causes. He was 81.
We have known Stan for over 25 years. Stan was with the original group who shot at Blue Steel when it was owned by Dave Wheeler. Stan was an active Bowling Pin shooter, 3-Gun, Multi-gun, and long-range shooter for decades. The first time I shot against Stan in a long-range competition was 2006 at the Steel Safari. Stan came in 5th place with a 111. Stan was a constant presence at most of the Colorado Multigun matches in the late 2000’s and virtually ALL of the long-range matches at Blue Steel, Raton, and then Douglas when we booted up that location.
Once “CD” started up, Stan was a constant help and staffed our matches as RO, admin, “sender”, checkpoint-runner, or whatever else we asked him to do. Stan most recently staffed our final match of 2024 (TEAM SAFARI) last September, and when I spoke to him in early April, he was looking forward to the 2025 season starting up with the Steel Safari.
The thing about Stan was that he would follow Jimmy’s and my directions to the “T”. One of the roles that Stan settled in to and was very well suited for was the “Main HQ Punch-Card Checker and Route-card Giver” at the Sniper Adventure Challenge, so Stan was the guy you had to show your correct route “punch card” to and convince you got all your checks before he’d give you the next route sheet! Stan was also a route “Sender” at Steel Safari, Burris, TBTC, USOTC, etc. He’d distract you with shit talking until he made you leave at 8:46 on the DOT. “HIT THE BRICKS!”
Stan would talk your ear off and we always joked about having a SAC stage where you had to wait there until you could extricate yourself from him talking to you while on the clock. But it turned out all his fish stories were TRUE (he brought the photo-album evidence to BSR in 2024). Whenever kids came up, he spoke of his son with so much pride.
GODSPEED STAN, SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE
